Edit script/take out characters

Hey everyone, welcome back to the blog!

Making a short film in high school is already a challenge, but when you’re on a tight deadline and people start dropping out, things get even harder. Our original script had more characters, but two of our actors couldn’t make it to the shoot, and we didn’t have time to find replacements. At first, it felt like everything was falling apart because those characters played important roles. Instead of panicking, we had to think fast and adjust the script to work with a smaller cast. We figured out which parts of their roles were necessary and found ways to merge them into the remaining characters. This actually helped us make the story more focused and cut out anything unnecessary. With fewer characters to manage, filming became a lot easier, and scheduling wasn’t as stressful. We also realized that having a smaller cast allowed for better performances since we could spend more time on each scene. The changes made the film stronger, even though we originally thought they’d make it worse. At first, it was frustrating to let go of parts of our original idea, but we learned that flexibility is key in filmmaking. Nothing ever goes exactly as planned, and sometimes, changes can make a project even better. We also saw how important it is to keep pushing forward instead of getting stuck on problems. What seemed like a setback ended up making our film tighter, more emotional, and easier to shoot. It was a lesson in how creativity can come from problem-solving, not just original ideas. Looking back, we’re glad things worked out the way they did because the final product feels more polished. This experience showed us that sometimes, less is more, and unexpected obstacles can actually lead to a better result. Filmmaking is all about adapting, and now we feel more prepared for any challenges in future projects. We’re really proud of how everything came together, and we can’t wait to share the final film. Stay tuned for more updates!
