Tittle Research: American Psycho
The website artofthetitle.com helped me research this title.
-What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?
A title shown was the production company (Lion gates films), along with the producers name. It also had small producers the movie was associated with. It showed the directors name, naming it her film. It then showed the name of the movie fade into the scene. Then the scene showed the actors names, with the main actor going first then following were the more popular features. It showed every actors name individually.
The costume designer also appeared onto the screen along with the casting directors all named together.
The production designer was also named along with the music supervisors. They named the main musician of the movie as-well. Lastly the editor and photographer were named.
- What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
Beginning the scene we are shown drops of blood falling, later to be dripped onto a white background as the name of the movie is shown. A knife is also shown as it slashes meat. The color red is prioritised as multiple artful plates of food are shown. Later these fancy plates are served and planned over. The scenes show well dressed servers and diners in a fancy setting talking amongst each other. We meet the main actor amongst some friends as they talk, they show and talk about another prevalent character. We also see that the main character is very moral and will spoken. The scene ends as they all place their fancy debit cards down on a gold plate.
- How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from?
The film uses sharp objects and a-lot of red to give the viewer and eerie feeling. Opening the movie up the viewer has only one idea about the dripping red and that is blood. As the characters are smug and rich, the room is dimly lit. This leaves the viewer to believe there is more to the movie than what meets the eye.
The off white gives a sterile look which can easily be seen as ominous. Butchering meat in the sequence gives way to what the movie could hold.
