Nijah will be editing and acting, Callie will be recording and acting, Natalie will direct and act, and Janiah will record and act.  Health & Safety: Within our film, we will be in a safe location, inside a teammates house with adults. Throughout our project, everything that can be seen as harmful is fake. Such as knifes, and any malicious actions. To ensure the safety of our team, our parents purchased us a first aid kit to keep on hand.  Props: Actors will be utilizing fake knives, ...

Short film research:Blue hole/Thriller/Horror

Image
In Blue Hole, the thriller/horror genre uses several techniques to create suspense and fear. The camera angles in the film, such as close-ups, wide shots, and point-of-view shots, help the audience feel close to the characters. Close-ups show the characters' fear, while wide shots show the dark and scary setting, making the characters look small and helpless. Point-of-view shots let us see what the characters see, which makes us feel more connected to their experience. The camera moves slowly to follow the characters, making the audience feel like something might happen at any moment. Fast camera movements are used during scary moments to surprise and shock the viewer. Lighting is important in building the creepy atmosphere in Blue Hole. The film uses dim lighting and shadows to make the setting look mysterious and scary. The darkness hides parts of the environment, so the audience feels unsure about what could be hiding there. The lighting also makes the characters seem isolated ...

Short film research: Four nights and a Fire/Drama

Image
The short film is called “ Four nights and a Fire’”. a.Common Sound in your genre We see that throughout the short film that a majority of what we hear is ambient noise through all different parts of the environment that the film was shot. Which also gives us as the viewers a more in depth feel of what the main character is grieving and feeling. b.Common Mis-En-Scene (CLAMPS) in your genre With the film surrounding the story of a young Ojibwe photographer, the camera that he is using is a very key and essential prop that helped tie a connection within himself and his father’s journey of losing one another. As well as the differences within dark and light , lighting that basically showcases all the four day and nights he had undergone to protect his father’s spirit. which also I feel it symbolizes. The length of time in the emotion felt within the lightness in the dark darkness of the days. We see that throughout the clothing that the director is honoring the rituals of his native ...

Short film research: Good Intentions/thriller

Image
The short video starts with an ominous music, the transition to an abrupt stop to a crashing sound. (shows a shift in the scene through sound).  Then transfer to the car scene we hear diegetic sound originating from the car with the driver cutting it off, and still some ominous music playing (as well as sounds of the car drifting off/ shows urgent-ness of the driver to get out of the situation) The music is eerie and more intense in the grocery/ corner store when she sees the man that she hit (the music dramatizes her feeling of shock and fear of him recognizing her).  Through the short film the music gets dark and more intense, in following scene the TV plays sounds of sirens and someone getting arrested/ shot at. (Building to her own intense complication)    The darkening music then transition to the man in the car burning adds to the characters guilt/ not only is the man burning in the car but he glares at her.        •    Commo...

Research: How to make a short film

Image
This video provided me with great tips on how to create a great short film. One would be to write a story based on the resources you already have, it's more effective to create something with what's available to you. Another tip was crafting setups and payoffs to add depth to my narrative, making the story more engaging for the audience. Not relying on the predictable, subverting expectations was another note on building up great suspense and even a good plot twist if wanted. A great example was using silence in a potential jump-scare moment, allowing the tension to build elsewhere. Maintaining a consistent tone through camera angles, lighting, and wardrobe gives the film a sense of coherence. Sound being often neglected, is very critical to a film's success, the video provided ways to make sure that sound was incorporated such as intentional conventional sounds to the genre, suspense track or anything that adds depth. I envision that this video will help throughout the pr...
